Guys,

I'm thinking of getting myself the Sony DSLR A700 (Body).

I haven't decided on what lens I wish to get with it and have yet to find out what write speed the memory card should have.

Lenses:

Sigma 18-200 / 3,5-6,3 DC

Or: Sony SAL18250.AE

CF Card:

SanDisk CompactFlash Extreme IV 8 GB

I know there are some photographers here so help me out ;)

Sorry for the Dutch language links but these come straight from my shopping cart :)

Go with the Sony lens, or possibly the Tamron 18-250, which may be less expensive and is the SAME lens.

Sigma has some interesting designs, but their quality control is absolute shit. You may get a great lens, but more likely you'll get a poorly made piece of junk.

As far as the memory card goes, you'd be wasting your money buying a 266x speed card. The camera is incapable of more than half that speed, and there are some issues with the Extreme IV cards that haven't been worked out yet. The Extreme III/Lexar 133x cards are plenty fast and very reliable.

If you really feel you need to get 8GB worth of space, get two 4GB cards instead of one 8GB card. That way, if one of them fails (and they do fail occasionally), all of your data is not lost -- you still have the second card, and you can keep shooting.

So there you have it.

Thanks Tritone,

Just ordered:

- Sony DSLR-A700
- Sony SAL18250.AE
- Sony MSEX-4 G
- Sandisk CompactFlash Extreme III 4 GB

So, instead of getting 2 of the same memorycards I decided to indeed split it up, but do it so I can have/keep both of them in the camera.

And now we wait :)

I don't think I would have gone for 18-250 mm lens to walk around with. I would have gone for a 18-70 mm or maybe a 28-70 mm and a 55-200 mm.
But it's a nice setup. :)

Tbh... the 18250 isn't that large, though it has it's weight.

Besides I already have a 28-80 and a 75-300 which came with my 'analogue' Minolta 505si super...

I didn't mean the size but the zoomfactor.
I thought you didn't have a lens that did the 28-70 range.
